Texas Hold'em Poker has exploded in recent years, and in particular online holdem tournaments and cash games. How to dominate specifically addresses mid-stakes no-limit Texas Hold'em cash games. The format of the book is interesting as it is very focused on hand analysis with dozens of hand examples, and less on an overall general theoretical method. Additionally the narration is punctuated with a lot of Old Vegas anecdotes. This 400+ pages manuscript is not easy reading as the content is dense in concepts, but this is definitively a gold mine for all kinds of poker tactics.

Sam O' Connor advocates a very tight-aggresive style necessary to "dominate" the tables and instill fear in your opponents. Some ingredients of this method are to almost never call and to generally employ large bet sizes. Not everyone will agree with everything written in this book, but it has the merit of offering an original presentation distant from other stereotyped material. Among other things, its list of the top fifty hands is different from other books as they are ranked by the amount of money they will produce and not by the probability of winning. This is a very important notion in Texas Hold'em poker, as you want to be the one winning the few big pots, not the many small pots.

The book is divided into nine chapters, each chapter subdivided into ten to fifteen sections, all with many hand examples. The accent is on how to play various hole cards, the types of opponents you will encounter and how to deal with them, the importance of position and hand reading. The last chapter crowns this work with ten sections only dedicated to bluffing, providing in depth exposition to the various types of bluffs and bluff induction.

This is not a book for beginners and even for intermediate players it may be a bit difficult to digest, but the content of How to dominate will be good rumination material for all holdem fans willing to do some homework.
